The Impact of LinkedIn Growth
What Impact Has LinkedIn Made on My Business?
I went corporate for a decade. I felt secure and was busy enough not to focus on business networking. Then came the layoffs, followed by COVID. I had to work hard and fast to grow some kind of following. I was burning the candle at both ends.
I was job hunting and self-branding simultaneously. If we are completely honest with each other – this was not the best time for a person of my “DNA” to be looking for high-level employment either. I began to sense energy in my LinkedIn. I dove down deeper. I consulted with LinkedIn experts and even hired a Virtual Assistant for a while.
As my Connections grew, so did my influence. The influence both led to and also drove my outbound content. This in turn added more to the influence. Once my Connections went from 1200 to about 3,000… things really began to take shape.
I started getting Connection Requests from equitable sources and not just spammers. I was able to strip some non-value accounts out of my “List” while still experiencing list growth.
By the time I was at 6,000 Connections, the requests for speaking engagements, and consulting began to grow. As I released my book “Action Leadership From the Edge”, there was now a professional reader base in my circle to share it with.
A strong LinkedIn base can lend confidence when there might have been none. It can lend a critical ear to a new project pre-launch. It can give you the internal strength to push when you previously may have folded.
While some may view Social Media as a vain exercise in self promotion, it is important to recognize that our business will only grow through exposure.
That exposure can be organic through referral, or introduction… or you can force the issue through any one of the many marketing channels.
LinkedIn is my preferred channel.
